Short answer
Deploying Claude for a business means choosing a commercial plan such as Claude Team or Enterprise, connecting it to your identity provider with single sign-on, setting admin and data controls, deciding which connectors to enable, such as Microsoft 365, publishing an AI use policy and rolling it out through a pilot with role-based use cases and training. API or cloud-platform access is a separate track for custom apps.
Key facts
- Claude Team and Claude Enterprise are Anthropic's commercial workspace plans, with admin controls consumer plans lack.
- Anthropic does not train its models on commercial customer data by default.
- Single sign-on through Entra ID keeps Claude access tied to your joiner and leaver process.
- Connectors, including Microsoft 365, let Claude work with SharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook and Teams content the user can access.
- Claude models are also available through the Anthropic API and major cloud platforms for custom builds.
Choose the right way to use Claude
There are two main tracks, and many organizations use both. The first is the Claude app for employees: a workspace where staff chat with Claude, work in Projects with shared files and instructions, create documents and analysis and, on eligible seats, use Claude Code for software work. The second is developer access through the Anthropic API or a cloud platform, used to build Claude into your own apps, workflows or agents.
| Option | Best for | Key points |
|---|---|---|
| Claude Team | Small and mid-size teams | Central billing, admin console, shared Projects, commercial data terms |
| Claude Enterprise | Larger or regulated organizations | Adds deeper controls such as SCIM provisioning, audit logs and custom data retention, depending on agreement |
| Anthropic API | Custom apps and automations | Usage-based access to Claude models for developers |
| Cloud platforms | Organizations standardized on a cloud | Claude models through Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud Vertex AI and Microsoft Foundry |
Set up identity and admin controls
- Verify your email domain and capture it so employees using work email join the company workspace, not personal accounts.
- Configure single sign-on with Entra ID using SAML, and apply Conditional Access and MFA like any other SaaS app.
- On Enterprise, use SCIM provisioning so accounts are created and removed from Entra ID groups.
- Assign owner and admin roles to a small group, and use groups to control who gets seats.
- Review data retention settings and audit log access with legal and security.
- Decide which features and connectors are enabled for which users.
Connect Claude to Microsoft 365 and other tools
Claude connectors let it search and read content from other systems on the user's behalf. The Microsoft 365 connector can work with SharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook and Teams content, and it respects the permissions the user already has. An Entra ID administrator must consent to the connector before users can enable it.
Treat each connector as a data access decision. Before enabling the Microsoft 365 connector widely, deal with SharePoint oversharing the same way you would before a Microsoft 365 Copilot rollout, because the connector surfaces what users can access. Connectors to other systems, including custom ones built on the Model Context Protocol, should go through the same review you use for any third-party app integration.
Write policy and train people
Publish an AI acceptable use policy before rollout. It should cover which tools are approved, what data may and may not be used, how outputs must be reviewed and where to report problems. Make sure staff know that personal Claude accounts are not approved for company data, and that the company workspace is.
Training matters more than features. Run short sessions by role using real tasks: drafting client communications, summarizing contracts, analyzing exported spreadsheets, writing procedures, reviewing code. Build shared Projects with standard instructions and reference documents so teams start from a consistent setup.
Pilot, then expand
Start with a pilot group of 10 to 30 users from teams with clear use cases. Run it for four to eight weeks, collect feedback and track which tasks people repeat. Use the admin console's usage data to see adoption.
After the pilot, decide seat counts by team, set up the Projects and connectors that proved useful and fold Claude into onboarding and offboarding. Assign an owner for the workspace who reviews usage, connector requests and policy updates each quarter.
Common timeline and effort
For a small or mid-size business, a workspace deployment with SSO, policy, a pilot and training typically takes three to eight weeks. Drivers include whether SSO and SCIM are needed, how many connectors are enabled, how much SharePoint cleanup is required and how many approvals the policy needs. API projects are scoped separately because they depend on the app being built. The schedule is set after discovery.
How Accred Consulting approaches it
Accred Consulting deploys Claude for businesses alongside Microsoft 365. Discovery confirms which plan fits, which teams have clear use cases and what must be in place first, including Entra ID single sign-on, data controls and SharePoint permissions for the Microsoft 365 connector. Delivery covers workspace setup, identity integration, connector configuration, an AI use policy draft for your review, shared Projects and role-based training. Accred works through a Proposal with clear scope, fixed price and timeline. You work directly with the US-based specialists assigned to the engagement, with documentation and knowledge transfer at handover.
